History

Kwun Tong is one of the earliest developed urban districts in Hong Kong . In ancient time, it had once been a strategic location for economic and military affairs. Kwun Tong was a tract of salt-pans where government revenue was generated through production of salt and collection of taxes from salt producers. The area was so called Kwun Fu Cheung ( 官富場 ) . The original Chinese name of Kwun Tong was 官塘 , literally meaning ponds owned by the government, as it was derived from these salt-pans which looked like ponds when filled up with sea water and majority of which were owned by the government.

Characteristics

Kwun Tong is a district where traditional Chinese culture and modern technology can be found; Lei Yue Mun preserves the old-fashioned village life style whereas APM shopping mall features the state-of-the-art design.
